Medium Term Plans
The autumn term will allow the children to settle into their new environment of learning. The children will begin to get used to a routine and explore the different learning facilities we have at Roe Green. They will also learn about our 5 school rules and how they can make sure that they are following them.
Our theme for this term is “Amazing Me!” and our key texts that we will be focusing on are “The Koala Who Could” by Rachel Bright and “On Sudden Hill” by Linda Sarah. Through these focus books, the children will be able to express themselves and learn about each other’s good qualities and how to take risks in a safe environment. Links to learning about what amazing things our body can do will also be explored through PE.
In math's, we will be learning about key concepts such as matching, sorting and comparing through a range of practical activities. These concepts will further support the learning when we move onto learning about the numbers 1, 2 and 3 and 2D shapes.
Through PSHE, the children will be engaged in a variety of activities and discussions regarding following the rules, our well-being, and having a positive attitude.
This term Year 2’S learning is linked to the theme of ’autumn’ and ‘changes’. Children will study autumn by observing changes in the environment, e.g. changes in weather, changes in colours and even changes that take place in characters of alternative tales that we are studying e.g. The Wolf’s story. Later in the second half of the term we will learn about changes that took place in the nursing profession as a consequence of actions by significant individuals from the Victorian era and from the First World War e.g. Florence Nightingale and Edith Cavell.
